Taolo Modisi

Independent, Non-Executive Director

 

Taolo Modisi has been recently appointed as an Independent, Non- Executive Director at Botswana Insurance Fund Managers (BIFM).

Taolo, also serves as a Non-Executive Director to the BIFM Unit Trust. Taolo is an investor and the Founder of Alpha Reign (Pty) Ltd, an advisory firm focused on sub-Saharan Africa. Prior to this, she served as an advisor to the United Nations Economic Commission of Africa advising on asset consultancy, which included Pension Fund Reforms. Taolo also headed up Debt Capital Markets for Southern and Central Africa in Standard Bank Group in Johannesburg, South Africa, which included eleven different countries across sub-Saharan Africa. In addition to this Taolo worked for Investec Bank South Africa, as a Senior Consultant in the Specialised Finance Africa team. She has significant experience in Debt Capital Markets, Lending, and Investment Banking, and has placed $ billions of issues and advised various Sovereigns, Multinationals, State-Owned Entities, Banks, and Corporates. Her transactions have received awards from The Banker and EMEA Finance Magazine.

Taolo has originated several firsts in various countries in sub-Saharan Africa, she originated the first commodity-linked note in Africa (ex-South Africa), and the first issues for government, corporate, and commercial paper in several countries across the continent. Taolo is a shareholder and director of Group Three (Pty) Ltd, a family-run business that specializes in property development, tourism, and hospitality. Taolo is also a Founding Trustee of the Gaositwe Chiepe Foundation a foundation formed in the name of her grandmother who was the first female Cabinet Minister in Botswana and the first African female Ambassador to the UK.

Taolo is currently taking a year-long leadership program with Stanford Seed an initiative by the Stanford Graduate School of Business that enrolls promising businesses in Africa and South Asia. Taolo also has a BSc in Finance from Waynesburg University with a minor in art and has also studied at Columbia University in New York and New York University during summer vacations.
