BIFM Hosts Clients at the 2023 Breakfast Seminar

Botswana Insurance Fund Management Limited (Bifm) recently hosted clients, stakeholders, and media to an annual Bifm Breakfast Seminar. The event was held under the theme ‘Exploring Local Alternative Investment Opportunities & Integration of ESG Factors in the investment process.’
 
The aim of the theme was to explore the local alternative investment opportunities given the changes in legislation and also underscore the importance of integrating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) factors in the Investment decision-making process across all asset classes.  The Breakfast Seminar seeks to create a nurturing environment for our clients, providing them with valuable insights to navigate the evolving landscape of responsible investing. 
Clients were treated to a knowledge-packed session led by Dr. Keith Jefferis - Director for Econsult Botswana, who gave an overview on macroeconomics and the impact of the Pension Fund Investment Rule (PFR2) on retirement funds.
 
Additionally, the seminar delved into a panel discussion that unpacked practical considerations of ESG investing, which featured Mr. Loago Bokole - Chief Executive Officer for Riscura, Mr. Thato Ungwang Bifm Portfolio Manager for Local Equities, Mr. Moemedi Moyo- Sector Lead for Mining and Natural Resources at RMB Botswana, and Mr Kopano Bolokwe – Head of Product Development at the Botswana Stock Exchange Limited.
 
The morning was capped with a presentation by Mr Botlhe Tshukudu, Bifm Portfolio Manager - Unlisted Investments, speaking to alternatives in the context of Botswana and the role Bifm has played in the development of alternative assets.
 
Bifm remains the country’s oldest asset management service provider and began its operations in the country in 1975. This event is a testament to the firm’s continued commitment to empower its clients and stakeholders.
